How to Discover Who You Really Are

As I sat in the Friendly's parking lot feeling sorry for myself, I began a journey to discover who I really am.  Not who I think that I am.  Not who others say I am.  But who I really am.

I didn't start a 12-step plan, revisit my childhood, or practice self-affirming mantras.  Instead, I turned to the Bible. And I uncovered jewels ...

I discovered that  I am created in the image of God.

I discovered that because of Jesus, I am ...

chosen,
adopted,
forgiven, and
redeemed.

There is no condemnation, no separation, and my labor is not in vain.

I am brought near, built up, a daughter of the King, and lavished with all the incomparable riches of God's grace.

I am created in the image of God, and I have a hope and a future.

And, I discovered something amazing.  I discovered that that as we fix our eyes on Jesus, he does something absolutely amazing. Through his word and by his Spirit, he transforms us from the inside out.

We all with unveiled faces
beholding the glory of the Lord
are being transformed into his image
from one measure of glory to another.
2 Corinthians 3:18

Little bit by little bit, as we learn to center our life around Jesus, as we saturate ourselves with his word, as we choose to walk in his ways, he transforms us into the women he created us to be.

Good news, right?

Now it's your turn.  Over the coming days, look up these jewels.

  • Genesis 1:27
  • Ephesians 1:3-7
  • Romans 8:1
  • Romans 8:29
  • 1 Corinthians 15:58
  • Ephesians 2:13
  • Ephesians 2:22
  • Galatians 2:26
  • Ephesians 2:6-7
  • Colossians 1:27
  • Colossians 2:7
  • Jeremiah 29:11
  • Hebrews 12:2
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18
  • 1 John 3:2

You could take one each day and let the truth wash over you and permeate your heart.  One by one, underline them, highlight them, write them in your journal, post them on your refrigerator, memorize them, and whisper them over the other women in your life.

Fix your eyes on Jesus.  He authored your faith.  He's perfecting your faith.  And he wants you to know that he created you in his image for Kingdom purposes that will bring glory to him, blessing to others, and so much joy to your own soul.  Discover who you really are and join me in becoming a dangerous, joyful band of holy women.
