We've Got It Easy

My days are pretty full.  With being a wife to one, mom to many and working with RiverCross, there is not a lot of time.  I'm guessing you're in the same boat.To Do listAnd this is the most common reason I hear for people not reading their Bibles daily.I get it.  But here's the deal, reading your Bible daily is not only the most important thing you can do to grow your faith, it is also the easiest thing you can do.  The Israelites had been wandering in the wilderness for forty years. Now they are poised on the edge of the Jordan preparing to take the Land.  Moses is giving his final charge. And listen to what he says:

Moses commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the set time in the year of release, at the Feast of Booths, when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.” Deuteronomy 31:10-13

Every seven years the people were to gather for a public reading of scripture.  Although they would eventually have synagogues in their towns, in these early years those were not established. And there weren't multiple copies of the scriptures.  Families didn't have Bibles. Individuals certainly didn't. And even if they did have the majority couldn't read.  And so all the people, men, women, little ones, and the sojourners were to come together to ...hear the words of the law, learn to fear the Lord, and then go out and  do what the word says. What would it be like for you and for me if we only heard God's word every seven years? If we had to listen intently to learn what God is like?  And we had to remember it so well so that we could obey? What would that be like?I know for me it would impossible. We've got it easy. Every single day we can sit down with our Bibles and read God's word. We can reread passages, ponder their meaning, pray asking God to help us understand, journal our thoughts, and apply it to our lives.BibleWe've got it easy.I understand that your schedule is busy. But if you want to grow in your faith, the easiest thing you can do is spend time every day in God's word.Would you join me on Facebook and share your thoughts? Is reading the Bible each day easy for you, or is it a challenge?  What makes it hard for you to read your Bible consistently?
