What can you do to combat trafficking? (Part 2 of 3)

Get AWARE
By reading books and watching movies, our hearts get connected with the issue.  Here are some of my favorites.  Do be aware that the content, by nature, is often graphic and violent.
Priceless, Tom Davis
Set in Russia, this book connects the trafficking industry with corruption in the Orthodox Church and the plight of orphans.
The Natashas:  Inside the New Global Sex Trade, Victor Malarek Focusing on the Eastern bloc, this factual expose brings light to the crime "which offers high profits with little risk of interference."
A Walk Across the Sun, Corban Addison            Two girls, orphaned in the tsunami, are abducted and subsequently trafficked.  Powerful, insightful, tragic, and yet hopeful, this book will tear at your heart, but leave you with hope.
Trade   Adriana, a 13-year old girl from Mexico City, is kidnapped and trafficked across the border.  Her only friend is Veronica, a Polish woman who is tricked into the trade with offers of a better life.
Taken  Liam Neeson stars as a CIA agent, Bryan Mills, whose estranged daughter is abducted by an Albanian gang and sold into prostitution while traveling in Paris.   Bryan has on 96 hours to save her.
Human Trafficking  This Hallmark mini-series starring Donald Sutherland and Mira Sorvino, covers the story of three trafficking victims from Prague, Kiev, and a 12-year old American tourist in the Philippines who is abducted in front of her parents.
Nefarious:  Merchant of Souls  is only being shown in select cities at this time.  The first of a three-part documentary series, Nefarious exposes the trends of modern sex slavery and offers hope for its abolition.

Becoming aware of the problem doesn't have a whole lot of value unless you take action.  Meet me here next Wednesday for actions that you can begin to take right now.

There are many more books out there related to this topic. What are you reading or movies are you watching to raise your own awareness of the issue of sex trafficking?  Leave me a comment telling me your recommendations or giving me your review.
