What HOSTING does for the Orphan...
From December 16 through January 3 children will be visiting from orphanages in Ukraine and Nicaragua. The cost has been reduced from $3,500 to $2,500 for families who are able to pay this full amount by November 15.
Hosting is one GREAT way to live out James 1:27.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
What does hosting do for the orphan?
1. Hosting removes them from institutional life for period of time. ANY time that these kids are out of the internot is valuable.
2. Hosting exposes them to family life. Few, if any, have seen healthy relationships between parents and their children. By giving them an experiential picture of family life, you could plant seeds that will give these children a picture of a "hope and future" that bears fruit for their own lives.
3. Hosting exposes them to community. As you include the child you are hosting in the activities of your day-to-day life, they are able to see other spheres that they may never have experience - church family, neighborhood, and other communities in which you and your family are involved.
4. Hosting opens the way for the orphans' real needs to be met. When the child you are hosting arrives, he or she will have very little. Katya came only with the clothes on her back. You will be able to provide necessary clothing, and may also choose to have your child see your family doctor or dentist, assess medical needs and treat, if possible.
5. Hosting stirs up interest, care, and prayers for the orphan. When you host a Ukrainian or Nicaraguan orphan, people are curious. Suddenly the orphan has a name, a face, a personality. Prayers are stirred and people become involved in something that has until this point been just a sad situation without a face. By hosting an orphan for Christmas you are bringing before others the reality that every orphan is a real child. Only God knows the long-term impact of the prayers and care that are offered for the child that you host.
