How to have a Simple Passover Seder
This is one of my favorite family traditions. Some time during the week leading up to Easter, our family, and often a few friends, celebrate Passover.
This is the meal Jesus shared with his disciples on the night before his death.
But it's more than a meal. It's a drama. Over a humble meal of egg, and parsley, and horseradish, haroset, the shank bone of a lamb, and unleavened bread ... the story of the exodus plays out.
Because God said to the people as they stood on the threshold of a new day, "Remember."
- Remember the day I brought you out of slavery.
- Remember the day I passed over your houses.
- Remember the day that I freed you from Egypt.
- Remember ... and tell your children.
So, as Jesus broke the bread and passed the cup, he remembered. With his friends, they played out the drama through the elements symbolizing salty tears, and the mourning, and the eye-watering sting of slavery. They remembered bread eaten in haste, and the blood of the lamb which marked the doors of their forefathers.
And Jesus knew He would be that Lamb.
So we share this simple meal. We see Jesus in every element. And we remember.
If you'd like to have a simple seder with your family and maybe a few friends, I have a page in the upper bar just for you. It has all the information you need:
- Grocery list
- Preparing the script
- Preparing the table
- Preparing the seder plate
- A haggadah, or script for the meal
Are you planning a seder this year? I'd love to hear about it!
