Peace Walked in the Room
Picture this ...
You and your best friends are going through something horrific, something terrifying. You're actually still in the middle of it and don't see the way out.
- Cancer diagnosis
- Unfaithful spouse
- A sad, sad ultrasound
- Bills piled up and no job prospects
- A tornado that has brought death and destruction to your community
- And on, and on, and on ...
The news is still fresh and you don't know how you're going to cope, when peace walks in the room.
On the evening of that day, the first of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." John 20:19
Peace be with you.
Don't you know Jesus must have been smiling, grinning in fact?
Downcast, fearful, hidden, these best friends had been through something horrific. They were actually still in the middle of it and didn't see the way out.
But then ...
Peace walked in the room.
Wouldn't you have loved to see their faces? Their eyes open wide? Wouldn't you have loved to see Peter in all of his exuberance wanting to pitch tents, and declare his undying allegiance, and wrap his arms around the Savior's neck?
Peace walked in the room.
Every plan they planned, every way out they imagined, every coping mechanism, stress strategy, every way that seemed right to them was laid aside ...
When peace walked in the room.
